Lady Eagles claim title, again

For the third straight year, the Oran High School girls basketball team won the Lady Devil Invitational tournament with a 51-46 over the hosts.  This year was probably the toughest.

With one starter out due to injury, Kaylee Payne, and two starters in foul trouble in the first quarter with two each, Claire Ramsey and Katelyn Streeter, the Eagles struggled to a 20-16 halftime lead.

Chaffee hung tough and tied the game on a couple of occasions after the break.  The Eagles hit 10 of 14 from the line during the fourth quarter to help secure the win.

Leah Cauble topped all scorers with 33.  She hit two treys and hit 11 of her 15 free throw attempts.  Jessie Long recorded her second double-double in less than 24 hours with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Long hit one from beyond the arc.   She went 10 and 10 last night in Arkansas.

Katelyn Streeter hit a trey for her three points.  Claire Ramsey had two points and two assists.  Katie Webb hit a free toss to round out the scoring.

Oran hit 12 out of 27 from two-point range for 44.4% and only 4 of 26 from long range for 15.4% after Friday night's tough loss and long bus ride.  The Eagles were 15 of 23 from the line for 65.2%.

Oran improved to 5-1 on the season and became the first team to win the title three years in a row since Scott City won four straight from 1995-1998.

The varsity Eagles will be back in action next Thursday when they travel to Meadow Heights to take on the Panther in a district contest at 6 pm.  There will be no JV game.
