Lady Eagles open tourney play with rout

The Oran High School girls varsity basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a convincing 84-25 victory over the Shawnee High School Lady Reds from Wolf Lake, Ill.

The Eagles, the number one seed, and two-time defending tournament champions led 32-3 after one and 54-7 at the break enroute to the 59 point win over their eighth-seeded opponents.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "I thought our defense caused them all kinds of problems. We got out in the passing lanes and created some steals that led to easy buckets. We missed some easy ones as well. We will need an all-around good effort going forward in this tournament."

Leah Cauble outscored the opponents on her own as she poured in 31 in about two quarters of action.  She hit two from beyond the arc and had 6 steals.  Claire Ramsey finished with 17 points, hitting three from long distance and eight steals.  Jessie Long had 17 points and eight rebounds, including seven off the offensive glass.  Kaylee Payne put in 10 points, hit two treys and led the team with three assists.

Katelyn Streeter had four, while Madison Ramsey and Katie Webb added three points each.  Ramsey's came on a three-pointer.

Oran was 27 of 47 from inside the arc for 47.4% and 8 of 25 from beyond for 32%.  From the line, they hit 6 of 13 for 46.2%
