The Oran High School girls basketball teams swept Scott City on road last night, and by doing so, finished undefeated regular seasons in league play. The junior varsity won 19-10 in a two-period contest. The varsity won their third straight crown by drubbing the Lady Rams 79-33.
The jayvee led 11-7 after one and went on to win by nine.
Katie Webb had 10 points for the Eagles.
Heather Gosche had four. Savannah Below and Kennedi McVay, each had two. Taylor Lowes added a single tally.
Coach Ethan Evans said, "We came out a little flat but did just enough to end the year on a high note. It was a very successful season for the girls."
The younger team concluded its season with a 4-0 league mark and 10-1 overall. They also claimed their division of the conference tournament.
One might have thought that after the big win at Dexter the night before, the varsity could struggle from a letdown, That didn't happen though, as Oran soared out to a 16-0 lead just three minutes into the action.
After one, the score was 41-12. At halftime, the lead ballooned to 64-20 as Oran cruised to the 46 point win.
Leah Cauble scored 26 in less than a quarter and a half. She was 11-11 from inside the arc and she added three steals and a three-pointer. Jessie Long finished with 16 points and six boards. She hit eight of nine from inside the arc.
Claire Ramsey had nine points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists and hit a trey. Webb got eight points on varsity and had six rebounds. Katlyn Streeter and Kaylee Payne both finished with seven. Streeter hit one from beyond the arc and Payne, who played less than a half, had six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Madison Ramsey hit two from distance to account for her six points. She added three assists.
While not every Eagle scored, every Eagle did get significant playing time.
Evans said, "We came out shooting the ball well and got a lot of girls in the game. It was some good experience for the younger girls."
The varsity has now won 21 straight regular-season conference matchups. The three consecutive regular-season titles pairs nicely with the three straight tournament crowns.
The older squad finished 6-0 and 19-4 and will look to pick up "one for the thumb" starting Saturday.
The Lady Eagles will attempt to win its fifth district championship in a row. Oran, the number-one seed, will face #8 Bismarck at 3 pm at the Perry Park Center in Perryville.
