Junior High volleyball dropped its home openers last night to Cape Central. The seventh-graders lost in three (25-19, 22-25, and 2-15). While the eighth graders fell in straight sets 22-25 and 14-25.
Coach Wibbenmeyer said, "We came out a little less nervous but we still hesitated in both games on serve receive. We had many aces in the seventh-grade game! Carly (Gloth) and Lily (Knox) both had one. Molly (Spane), Maddie (Stickel), and Hallie (Nichols) all added two. Braylyn (Morgan) and Addie (Nichols) both added 3 aces and Addie also had 3 kills. We went into three games with them however they got the first serve of the game and we couldn’t be confident in receiving them."
In regards to the eighth-grade game, the coach said, "we came out flat-footed and very discouraged when we did something wrong. Volleyball is a mind sport and it is hard when you mess up to keep going and staying positive. This is something we need to work on this season. Rylee (Boshell) had two aces and an assist. Laney (Shy) had great serve receive and was a great leader and talker on the court. Hannah (Boshell) and Hope (Woodfin) both added one kill each."
"We looked better than our first game so hopefully we continue to improve," she added.
Both squads are now 0-2.
The eighth-grade will be back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Jackson for a 5:30 pm match.
