Lady Eagles bomb Bravettes

The Oran High School varsity girls basketball team was on fire from beyond the three-point line as they defeated visiting Scott County Central last night 96-60.  It was the first Scott-Miss Conference game for both teams.  The Eagles hit 17 of  37 from beyond the arc for 46%.  12 of those came during the first half as Oran built an insurmountable 60-25 halftime lead.

Three Eagles reached double-digits and two of them had double-doubles.  Leah Cauble led all scorers with 39, she was 9-15 from long range.  She just missed the plateau with nine rebounds.  Jessie Long had a career-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Kaylee Payne, who was saddled with foul trouble, scored 10 points and had 10 boards.

Katelyn Streeter scored six points on two three-pointers.  Katie Webb added four.  Taylor Lowes and Madison Ramsey both chipped in three with a trey apiece.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "I thought we played excellent offensively. We shot the three extremely well and also got it inside when they started overplaying the three. Defensively we need to get better in the half court. We can score with anyone but need to do a better job guarding and rebounding."

As a team, they shot 17-40 from two for 43% and 11-18 from the line for 61%.  They are now 1-0 in league play and 2-0 overall.

With her offensive outburst, Long is now eleven points away from the "thousand-point club."

The varsity will be off until Monday, December 3rd when they will begin defense of their three-straight Lady Devil Invitational crowns.

The jayvee will have to wait another week after the varsity.  They will participate in the Bloomfield Tournament.  The bracket is not yet available for that event.
