The Oran High School varsity basketball team advanced to the finals of the 2019 Lady Devil Invitational with a 68-36 win over the fourth-seed Delta Lady Bobcats.
Oran scored the first six points an led 16-11 atter one. The score was 38-21 at the break. The top-seed Eagles put the game away in the third and led 59-31 heading into the final eight minutes. The clock ran most of the fourth.
Katie Webb scored eight of her game-high 21 points during the first frame. Taylor Lowes hit three of her four three-pointers on consecutive offensive possessions in the second period, she finished with 15. Kaylee Payne finished with a double-double (14 points and 10 rebounds). Heather Gosche was the fourth Lady Eagle in double figures. She finished with 12.
Traci Hency hit one from beyond the arc for her points. Grace Davis hit a field goal and Hope Woodfin made a free throw.
Gosche had a team-high four assists and Webb just missed a double-double with nine boards. Payne was 6-6 from the line.
As a team, they were 22-42 from inside the arc for 52.4%. From beyond, they were 5 of 12 for 41.7%. At the line, they hit 9-11 for 81.8%.
Coach Ethan Evans said, "Overall, I was pleased with the way we played last night. Defensively,. we did a nice job of forcing them into some turnovers and keeping them off the boards. Offensively, we had really balanced scoring with 4 girls in double figures which was nice to see. Going forward we need to cut down on our turnovers but this was a good game against a tough team."
Oran improves to 4-0 on the young season and will look to claim their 5th LDI crown in a row on Saturday at 4 pm against the winner of tonight's (2)Kelly and (3) Scott City matchup.
