Hashtag Three-peat!

For the second time in the 64 years of the event the Oran Eagles have won their namesake tournament title three times in a row.  The first 3-peat was before "3-peat" was even a thing, back in 1964-1966.  Oran claimed the title again in 1972, then they were shut out until 2017, when the current streak began.

Last night,  the number-one seeded Eagles posted a 79-49 win over the third-seeded Kelly Hawks to pick up their third straight title before a packed house.

Johnson carried the Eagles offensively during the first half as he scored 27 of his game-high 32 points,  during those periods,  Twenty of those came during the first quarter, including five three's.

Kelly hit the game's first field goal, but a Johnson trey, put Oran up for good.  The Eagles scored ten straight, before the Hawks scored three the old fashioned way to cut the margin 10-5.  The Hawks took a timeout with 2:04 left in the first quarter trailing 18-7.

After one, Oran led 24-11.

Johnson added another three as part of his seven second quarter points and margin expanded to 26, 45-19.

After the intermission, Langdon Scheeter scored 11 of his 19 which included three three's and Tyson Goodale recorded 10 of  his 18.

Todd Priggel, who was saddled with early foul trouble scored all eight of his points during the final 16 minutes.

The game saw a running clock through most of the fourth-quarter.

Oran hit 20 of 35 shots from inside the arc for 57.1%. From beyond, they were 9-21 for 42.9 percent.  At the line, they were 12-19 for 63.2%.

Johnson finished with a double-double, as he grabbed 10 rebounds as well and had a total of six three's.

Scheeter also had four rebounds and three assists.Goodale was 6-6 at the line, had three boards and an assist.

Samuel Shoemaker added a field gaol.  Cooper Priggel did not score but had six rebound and three assists.

Oran out rebounded the taller Hawks by a 30-27 margin and forced 12 turnovers while committing only five of their own.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "The boys came out with good energy from the beginning. Ty [Johnson] was hot early and everyone did a good job of getting him open and the ball. We had a few mental mistakes that we have to clean up and we also need to work on our free throws this week. We really appreciate all of the crowd support it really helps set the tone of the game."

The 3-0 Eagles will host the 2-3 Risco Tigers on Tuesday.  I have not been able to confirm that Risco has a junior varsity team.  I will post when I know for sure.
