Girls defeat district foe at home

On Monday, the Oran High School girls varsity basketball team hosted district rival St. Vincent.  there was no jayvee game.  The Lady Eagles put the game away early.  They led 20-5 after one and 40-8 at the half and were never threatened as they picked up a 72-23 win. The Lady Indians are the number-three seed, while Oran is seeded first in the upcoming district tournament that will be played at Bloomfield beginning Saturday.

Katie Webb led all scorers with 20.  Kaylee Payne had 15, including two treys.  Taylor Lowes hit three from beyond the arc in her 14 points.

Hope Woodfin had six all from beyond the line, Grace Davis, Heather Gosche and Traci Hency each scored four, Kennedi McVay hit a three-pointer to account for her points and Paige Bradley added a field goal.

They were 2-3 from the line, and 22-37 from inside the arc for 62.2% from beyond the arch they were  8 -19 for 42.1%

They improved to 19-4.  They travel to Dexter tonight for a 6 pm tip.

Coach Larry Boshell, who made his return after a bout with the flu said, "The girls came out and did a nice job on defense.  We communicated well and rebounded very well on that end of the floor, which led to a quick offense for us a few times.  Offensively, in the first half, I felt we held the ball too long against their zone and didn't make them shift enough, but when we were executing our offense we were able to score in the post and Katie stepped up big from the high post and knocked down some jump shots from 12 to 15 feet, which makes her even tougher than she already is inside.  We did a good job of hitting the open spot in the zone later in the game and got some open looks from the outside as well and we knocked some of those down.  We are going to Dexter and Scott City and try to end the regular season on a high note."
