Eagles Ride Trankler's Arm and Bat to Opening Day Victory

Thomas Trankler after he hits a three run homer.
Oran opened it's baseball season with a strong performance from Thomas Trankler on the mound and in the batter's box as the Eagles pounded the Bloomfield Wildcats by a score of 12-0.

Oran avenged last year's opening day loss to the Wildcats by blowing open a close game when they scored six runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

The Eagles jumped on top in the first after Ben Heuring walked with one out and advanced to second on a ground out.  Hunter Schlosser tripled to the deepest part of center field to drive in Heuring and give Oran the 1-0 lead.

The score was still 1-0 in the fourth inning when Preston Hahn led off the inning with an infield single.  He advanced to second when a fly ball to left hit by Tanner McVay dropped untouched.  Both runners advanced after a Drew Reischman laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Clay Sauceda drove in Hahn with a groundout.  McVay then scored on Trankler's two-out single.
Hunter Schlosser rips a triple.

The Eagles put the game out of reach in the sixth when they sent 11 to the plate and scored six runs.  The inning was highlighted by Trankler's towering three-run homer to left.

Trankler picked up the win on the mound throwing six shut out innings.  He allowed only three hits and struck out seven and more importantly did not issue a walk.  Hunter Schlosser pitched the final inning and gave up a one out walk but got the next batter to ground into a game ending double play that required Hahn to make a fabulous play behind second base before flipping the ball to Heuring.

Reischman had three hits for the Oran in his first high school game.  Trankler, Jacob Priggel, Schlosser and Hahn had two hits each. Trankler had four rbi and Reischman added three.  Schlosser, Hahn and Sauceda each drove in one run.

The Eagles will hit the road again on Thursday as they will take on district foe Advance in a 4:30 pm contest.  These two team met twice last year, both were one run affairs and both were won by Oran.
