Eagles Pound Wildcats

The Oran Eagles baseball team improved to 5-0 and with an 18-3 victory over the Leopold Wildcats this afternoon in Oran.  The game shortened to 4 1/2 innings because of the mercy-rule featured 17 hits by the Eagles and a 10 run 4th inning.

Oran scored 3 in the first after a lead-off double by Cole Priggel, a single by Preston Hahn, a run-scoring ground ball by Drew Reischman that was misplayed for an error.  That was followed by RBI singles by Clay Sauceda and Blake Overfield.

The Eagles plated 2 more in the second after a one-out walk to Hahn, a RBI triple by Reischman and another infield error this time on a ball hit by Sauceda.

Leopold scored it's first run in the third.  After the first man was retired, the next two were hit by pitches.  Those were followed by a RBI double from their clean up man, John Gray.

Oran would extend the lead in their half of the inning.  Layne Johnson picked up the first hit of his high school career, a sharp single down the line into right.  After a sacrifice bunt by Austin Eftink, Denver Elfrink hit a pop up on the right side of the infield that hit the ground putting runners on first and second.  Cole Priggel hit a RBI single down the line past the third baseman to drive in Johnson, push Elfrink to third and he advanced on the throw home to second.  Hahn walked to load the bases. With two outs Sauceda hit a long single to left-center to Elfrink and Priggel.

The Eagles led 8-1 after three innings.

Oran put the game away with a 10 run fourth.

Tanner McVay led off with a single, went to third on a long double by Johnson.  Eftink's RBI single drove in McVay and put Johnson on third. Elfrink hit into a 6-4 fielder's choice, driving in Johnson and forcing Eftink at second.  Priggel singled up the middle and Hahn walked again to load the bases  Reischman then singled to right-center to drive in Elfrink and Priggel.

The Eagles were now up 12-1.

After a wild pitch, Hahn was at third and Reischman at second.  Sauceda then drove in 2 more with a

double to left.  Jacob Shoemaker entered as a courtesy runner and went to third on Overfield's single to center.  Overfield ended up at second as the throw came home.  Shoemaker and Overfield both scored on Senior Blake Schlitt's RBI pinch-hit single to center.  Junior Wyatt Kinney drew a walk in his pinch-hit appearance.  Drew Mitchem's pinch-hit single loaded the bases before sophomore Peyton McVay picked up an RBI pinch-hit walk.  The freshman Shoemaker pushed the final tally with a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to left driving in Kinney.

The Wildcats pushed across 2 in the top of the fifth on 3 singles and a hit batsman for the final margin of 18-3.

Priggel and Sauceda each had 3 hits.  Priggel scored 3 and drove in 1 while Sauceda had 5 RBI.

Reischman, Overfield and Johnson had 2 hits apiece.  Reischman scored 3 drove in 3. Johnson scored twice, while Overfield had a run and a RBI.

Hahn scored 3 times on a 1-1 afternoon with 3 walks.  Elfrink scored twice and drove in a run. Schlitt had 2 RBI.

Hahn picked up the win and improved his record to 2-0.  He went all 5 innings allowing 3 runs, all earned, on 7 hits, 1 walk.  He hit 3 batters and struck out 6.

Oran will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Bernie to take on the Mules at 4:30 pm.
