Eagles Pound Wildcats

Preston Hahn delivers a pitch during
his no-hit performance at Leopold.
The arm and bat of senior Preston Hahn helped the Oran High School baseball team end a two game losing streak this afternoon as they defeated the Leopold Wildcats 13-0 in five innings.  But he had lots of help.

Hahn went the distance on the mound tossing a no-hitter.  He struck out 11 and walked only 1 to improve his record to 3-0 and lower his ERA to 1.42.  At the plate he was 2-4 with 3 RBI and a run scored.

Although the final score does not indicate it, the game was close through three innings with the Eagles holding a slim 1-0 lead.

Oran scored that first run in the second inning.

Clay Sauceda led off the inning with a single. After two consecutive misplayed pop-ups by the second baseman resulted in force-outs at second, Tanner McVay was at first with two outs.   Denver Elfrink lined the first pitch he saw through the gap in left-center to score McVay all the way from first base.

That was the score heading into the fourth inning.

The Eagles exploded for 12 in that fourth frame on 6 hits, 3 errors, 3 walks, a sacrifice fly and  a sacrifice bunt attempt that did not result in an out.  Hahn had 2 singles in the inning that drove in all 3 of his runs.  Elfrink also singled twice driving in 2 more runs.
Jacob Shoemaker singles during the
second inning at Leopold

Elfrink was 3-3 with 3 RBI and scored twice on the day.  Sauceda was 2-2.  Layne Johnson had a hit in three at bats and scored a run.  Jacob Shoemaker was 1-2 with a RBI and a stolen base. Blake Schlitt scored a run and also had 2 RBI.  Blake Overfield had a couple of runs scored and also added an RBI.

Tanner McVay crossed the plate 3 times and had an RBI, while Drew Mitchem scored twice and had a stolen base.  Drew Reischman scored once and also had a stolen base.

Oran will be back in action Saturday morning at 11 when they host Bernie to close their inaugural fall season with a varsity - junior varsity double-header.  The Eagles are currently 6-2.
