There is an old country song by Charlie Daniels called "The Devil went down to Georgia", well, last night the Eagles went to Chaffee but the results were the same as the song as Oran took two no-doubt victories from their conference-foe, the Chaffee Red Devils.
The seventh grade game saw an Eagle lead of only 4 after the first six minutes, 9-5, but an 18-6 second quarter amounted to a 27-11 half-time margin and the game was never in doubt afterwards.
Oran outscored Chaffee 16-15 in the second half to pick up the 43-26 win.
Ty Johnson had 24, with 3 coming from beyond the arc, for the Eagles who improved to 4-1 and 10-3.
Kaden Hargrove scored 7, while Dane Shands chipped in 6. Drew Smith added 4 and Kaleb Gosche tallied 2.
Oran was 1 for 6 from the line (17%).
The eighth grade game was over almost as soon as it started, as the Eagles held the 'Devils scoreless in the first period, 20-0, it was 33-5 at the half.
It only got worse in the second half as Oran out scored Chaffee 19-1, including a 4-0 fourth quarter, enroute to the 52-6 victory.
Landon Stanberry led all scorers with 15 including a trey.
Tyson Goodale also reached double digits with 10.
Jakob Findley and Tristen Schlosser each put in 8. Todd Priggel scored 7. Kaiden Massey and Kole Simms both chipped in 2.
The Eagles were 1 of 9 from the line for only 11%.
Oran's eighth grade team upped their record to 5-0 in conference and 12-1 overall.
Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought both teams did a very good job of sharing the basketball and playing unselfishly. They played focused and with energy and took care of business. We now have a short turnaround and play at SCC with a 4:30 start time for the last regular season game."
Thank you Michael Stevens for the photos!
