Eagles slip past Cubs

It wasn't easy and it wasn't pretty, but the Oran Eagles held off the upset-minded Bell City Cubs in today's consolation semi-final 64 to 58.

Oran, seeded 9th, managed an 11-10 lead after the first quarter but found themselves on the the short end of a 29-24 halftime score to the 12th seed Cubs.

The Eagles out scored Bell City 24-10 during the third to take what turned out to be an insurmountable lead at 48-39 into the final period.

The Cubs were able to cut the lead down to 2 points with about five and a half minutes to go but Oran was able to hang on for the six point victory.

Max Priggel hit for 20, including three three-point field goals.  Jacob Shoemaker had 14 and Layne Johnson 11, including a trey.

Cole Priggel scored 9.  Preston Hahn and Garrison Mangels both added 5.

The Eagles hit 12 of 19 from the line for 63%.  They improved their record to 5-5.

Oran will play for the consolation championship tomorrow at 3 pm.  They will take on Chaffee the 14 seed.
