The Oran High School boys basketball teams picked up two conference wins last night over the visiting Kelly Hawks. The junior varsity won 45-30, while the varsity prevailed 69-52.
In the night cap, Oran led by 5, 16-11 after one. The lead expanded to 31-18 at half-time.
The Eagles out-scored Kelly 38-34 in the final half.
Jacob Shoemaker led all scorers with 26 points, including 3 treys and 7 of 8 free throw shooting. Cole Priggel scored 20 and was 10 for 12 from the line, including 10 out of 10 in the fourth quarter. Layne Johnson had 10.
Garrison Mangels totaled 6, Max Priggel added 5. while Preston Hahn chipped in 2.
Wyatt Kinney, Drew Reischman and Blake Schlitt saw action, but did not score.
Oran hit 24 of 29 from the line for 83% overall and 13 out of 13 in the final period.
Junior Varsity
In the opener, the Eagles fell behind early 10-4 after one, but by half had claimed an 18-14 lead.
The Oran margin was 6 heading into the final frame at 32-26. The Eagles won the final seven minutes 13-4 to pull off the 15 point victory.
Drew Reischman led all scorers with 14 points. He was 8-8 from the line on the night and 6-6 in the fourth quarter. Ben Fox had 12, including 2 treys.
Denver Elfrink added 8. Bradley Brooks and Calen Read scored 4 each. Read was 2 of 2 from the line. Joey Phillips had 3 points.
William Kluesner and Peyton McVay played but did not score.
Oran was 11-22 from the line for 50%.
After the game, Coach Joe Shoemaker told the blog, "I thought both teams came out and played with a lot of energy and intensity. It was nice to pick up the wins against a conference opponent."
The varsity improved to 2-2 in Scott-Miss play and 8-6 overall. The junior varsity is 1-2 and 3-6.
Both teams will be back in action when they travel to Woodland for a rare Thursday night match up. Game time is 6 pm.
