Varsity girls romp over Rams

Last night the first-seeded Oran High School varsity girls basketball team opened their play in the 2016 Scott-Mississippi Conference team in Chaffee against the eighth-seeded Scott City Rams.  The game was decided early as the Eagles cruised to an 83-20 rout.

Leah Cauble scored the first six points of the game on a trey and a conventional three-point play, enroute to a 37 point performance.  Oran outscored the Rams 23-5 in the first period. Cauble accounted for 17 of those points.

A 24-5 margin in the second had the lead up to 47-10 at the break.

The lead got bigger in the the third as the Eagles outpaced Scott City 23-2.

A running clock in the fourth as Oran won that quarter too, 13-8.

"I was pleased with the way we responded coming off our first loss. We were a little short handed but everyone stepped up offensively and defensively,"  Coach Evans told the blog.

The Eagles only had 7 players dressed and played only 6.  Shiloh Kirn and Erin Schlitt did not dress while Ashlyn McIntosh did not play in order to rest a nagging injury.

Cauble hit 12-14 from 2-point range and was 4-9 from beyond the arc and hit her only free throw attempt.  She also dished out 7 assists.  Brianna Stause had 18 points and hit 3 of her 6 three point attempts.  Jessie Long also reached double-figures with 10.  Long had 8 steals.

Hannah Scherer had 7 points, Tatum May 6 and Claire Ramsey chipped in 5.  Scherer and May grabbed 7 rebounds each.  Ramsey had 5 assists.

Oran was 28-47 from inside the arc for 59.6% and 8 of 17 from beyond for 47.1%.  From the line they only hit 33% on 3 of 9 shooting.

The Eagles improved to 10-1 on the season and will take on Charleston this evening 6:30.
