That was the last time the Oran High School girls junior varsity basketball team had played a game before last night's opening round contest versus the #6 seed East Prairie Eagles. And it showed.
Oran, the #3 seed, lost to East Prairie 28-22 and was eliminated from the Scott-Mississippi Conference tournament at Chaffee.
The Eagles had their chances but their field goal percentage was lower than the weekend's temperatures.
Oran led the game 2-0 on Katelyn Streeter's field goal, but never again as they trailed 9-6 after 1. Streeter scored all 6 Eagle points in the frame. It was 12-8 East Prairie, at the intermission.
Oran scored first in the 2nd half to cut the lead to 1 on a Madison Ramsey trey, but that was as close as they got as the Mississippi county Eagles out scored the Scott county Eagles 10-2 the rest of the quarter for a 9 point margin heading into the fourth.
Oran was able to cut the margin to six at the buzzer on Ramsey's long three-pointer.
Head coach Ethan Evans told the blog, "I thought we played well defensively but just couldn't get anything going on the offensive end. We have some good athletes on the team but they just need to learn to be more aggressive."
Streeter led her team with 8 points, Ramsey and MacKenzie Graviett each had 6. Madison Graviett added 2. Megan Henson played, but did not score.
The Eagles were 2-4 from the free throw line for 50%.
Oran's junior varsity squad is now 3-2 and will play again next Monday when the girls will host Saxony Lutheran.
The varsity Eagles will take on Scott City tonight at 5:45 pm.
