Tonight, Chaffee tried the same tactic, utilizing a 2-2-1 full court zone press to try and slow down the Eagles. Oran was ready as they prepared and adjusted and picked up 57-33 win.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead forcing the Red Devils to take a time-out. Chaffee then went on their own 7-2 run, tying the game at 9. It was nip and tuck the rest of the first period with Oran clinging to a 3 point lead, 19-16 heading into period two.
The next two quarters, however, belonged to the Eagles as they really clamped down defensively holding the Devils to only 1 field goal in each period. At the half it was 29-18 and after three the game was all but over with Oran up 46-20.
Max Priggel led all scorers with 22. He hit three from beyond the arc. Jacob Shoemaker poured in 17 including one trey. Layne Johnson had 10 points.
Garrison Mangels added 8 as the Eagles only had four players score.
Luke Barnes, Preston Hahn, Wyatt Kinney and Blake Schlitt all played.
Mangels and Shoemaker each had 8 rebounds to lead in that category.
They were 20 of 34 from inside the arc for 58% and 4 of 9 from beyond for 44%. The team was only 5 of 12 from the free throw line for a disappointing 41%
Coach Joe Shoemaker told the blog, "I thought we started a little slow but picked it up in the middle two quarters. We did a good job of working inside out which gave us good shots from the perimeter. Now we have to prepare for SCC without any practice time. Hopefully we can come out and challenge them, pick up a win and play for a championship."
The varsity improved their record to 10-8.
Oran, the fourth seed, will take on the number one seed Scott Count Central Braves tomorrow night at 6:30. The jv takes on East Prairie at 4 pm.
