What's happenin' (1/4-1/8)

First, let me say, I hope that all of our readers had a joyous Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.

Now, the first week of school after the break will feature, in all likelihood, three girls games along with two boys games including a "Two for Tuesday".

On Monday, the girls will open play in the 2016 Delta New Year Tournament at 5:30 pm against the host squad.  Oran (7-0) is the number 2 seed and Delta is number 7 and currently sits at 4-5.  Last year the Eagles defeated the Bobcats both times the two teams played.

On Tuesday, both the girls and the boys will play.  The girls will play at either 5:30 or 8:30. If they win Monday they play at the later time. Also, the boys (6-5) will travel to Bernie to take on the 2-8 Mules at 6 pm.  Last year, Bernie defeated the Eagles 65-57.

Wednesday has no games scheduled, but we should get seeds and brackets for the Scott-Mississippi Conference girls basketball tournament that will be held at Chaffee the week of January 11-15.

The girls will, more than likely, and for certain with a win on Monday, play on Thursday. The championship game is slated for 7:30 pm and the third place game is set for 6:00 pm.

The boys will close the week out on Friday as they will host the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders.  Oran picked up the road win last year, 55-49, but will face a much improved team out Fruitland.  Saxony is currently 11-1 and finished 3rd in the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament.
