Eagles dump Delta

For the third time this season the Oran High School boys varsity basketball team faced off against the Delta Bobcats.  For the third time, the game was over early.  The Eagles defeated their conference foe in the opening round of the Class 1, District 2 tournament at Richland High School today by a final of 88-31.

Oran scored the first 7 points and led 11-2 with 5:30 left in the opening quarter, when the Bobcats took a time out.  After the first, the Eagles were up 28-8.

By half time the score was 52-18.

The second half was much like the first.  Oran outscored Delta 36-13.

After a turbo-clock fourth period, the Eagles claimed a 57 point victory.

In the two previous contests, Oran had defeated the 'Cats, who have now lost 65 straight games to MSHSAA opponents, 75-27 during the regular season match up and 67-3 during the Christmas tournament.

All 13 Eagles on the roster got playing time and 11 scored.

Leading the way was Max Priggel, who scored 24, with 4 from beyond the arc.  Cole Priggel added 16, while Jacob Shoemaker chipped in 14, with 2 treys.

Preston Hahn came off the bench and hit for 9, including one 3-pointer.  Garrison Mangels had 7.  Denver Elfrink tallied 6 and Layne Johnson 4.  Wyatt Kinney nailed a 3 for his points.  Blake Schlitt and Ben Fox each hit a field goal, and Bradley Brooks hit a free throw.

Luke Barnes and Drew Reischman played, but neither scored.

Oran was 12 of 15 from the free throw line for 80%.

Head Coach Joe Shoemaker told the blog, "I thought we took care of business and advanced on to the next round. I give Delta credit for not giving up and playing the entire game. We know that we have to execute a little better to keep winning at this time of the year and look forward to the challenge of playing Bell City again."

The second seeded Eagles are now 14-13 and will face the third seeded Bell City Cubs on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
