Victory eludes Eagles at Bell City

The Oran High School boys varsity basketball suffered a heart-breaking and controversial defeat at the hands of the Bell City Cubs last night by a score of 63-62.  The game winning shot appeared to have been taken after the final buzzer had sounded but it was counted.  And as Forrest Gump, said, "that's all I have to say about that."

It looked as if the Eagles were on their way to an easy win as they doubled up the Cubs at the half 26-13 and held a double digit lead well into the third quarter.

Oran's defense, however allowed 50 second half points, 30 of which came from beyond the arc.

Layne Johnson led all scorers with 25, including 4 treys.  Jacob Shoemaker scored 15 and had 1 three, while Max Priggel added 12 with 2 from long range.

Preston Hahn chipped in 6 and Garrison Mangels had 4.

Blake Schlitt and Drew Rieschman played, but neither scored.

The Eagles were 11 of 19 from the line for 58%.

Oran is now 13-10 on the season.

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Bloomfield at 6 pm.  Tuesday will be "Lil Cheer" night, so let's pack those stands!
