Eagles with 3rd straight rout

On Friday, the Oran High School softball team hosted the Leopold Wildcats.  The Wildcats, a district opponent, came in with a stellar 11-1 record.  The winner would more than likely claim the number two seed in the upcoming post-season tournament and receive a first round bye along with Scott City, who seems to be the odds on favorite to claim the one seed.

Both teams went down in order in the first inning.

In the second, though, Leopold had a lead off single off of Eagle starter Kenzie Graviett.  Two outs later, the Wildcats had runners on 2nd and 3rd, but a ground out ended the threat.

Oran plated 2 in the second.

Tatum May hit a double to open the frame, she was chased home on Jessie Long's double.  Long would score on Maddie Graviett's RBI infield single.

In the third, 4 more Eagles would come home to perch.

Sydney Kern singled to start things off and Leah Cauble reached on an error.  May would score Kern with a single and Cauble would cross on Long's base hit.  Hannah Scherer's ground out allowed May to score and then Long followed when Maddie Graviett singled with two outs.

Cauble singled with one out in the second and scored on Claire Ramsey's triple.  May followed with a triple of her own.  She scored on Long's single and Oran lead was 9-0 after 4.

The Eagles ended the game after pinch hitter Kaitlyn Streeter singled and scored after Brianna Stuase also singled.

Kenzie improved to 2-1, tossing all 5 shut out innings.  She allowed only 5 hits, struck out 4 and walked none.

May and Long were both 3-3. Long had a double and 3 RBI.  May had a double and a triple along with 2 RBI.  Maddie Graviett was 2-3 with 2 RBI.

After the game, an a very happy Asst. Coach Susan Dirnberger told the blog, "Great win for the Lady Eagles. Hitting was on today. Laying down the bunt was on today also  - we moved the runners over and even beat out a few bunts. The team looked right on today, very focused and did not let down when Leopold had runners on base. We made the key plays and Kenzie pitched her "A" game. Hopefully, we can carry this state of playing into the final two weeks of the season and in the districts. We are back!"

Oran improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the district.
