8th grade picks up hoops win

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball team defeated the visiting Meadow Heights Panthers this evening 37-24.  The Panthers did not have a 7th grade team, so the Eagles played their entire roster up for the contest.

Oran jumped out to a 7-2 lead after one and 19-8 at the half.  The Eagles outscored the visitors 18-16 in the final half.

Head Coach Ethan Evans said, "I thought we did a good job of spreading the ball around offensively and really getting after it defensively. It was nice to get everyone some minutes and have everyone contribute."

Mallory Lowes led the way with 12 points, all in the 2nd half.  She hit 2 treys and was 4-4 from the charity stripe.  Hope Woodfin had 7 and was 1-2 at the line.  The Boshell cousins, Hannah and Rylee, each chipped in 6.  Hannah had all her points in the second quarter when Oran expanded it's lead.  Alyssa Spane added 4 and Grace Davis hit a field goal for her 2 points.

The Eagles were 5-6 on free throws for 83%.

The 8th grade is now 2-1 on the season.

Both squads are scheduled to be back in action tomorrow at 6 pm, when they host conference foe, Charleston.
