Basketball splits with Charleston

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams picked up a win and a loss last night against conference rival Charleston.  The seventh grade won 25-5 in the opener but the eighth grade dropped a 22-17 decision in the night cap.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "I thought the (7th grade) girls really got after it on both the offensive and defensive boards. They played good defense and came out hitting shots from the get go."

The Eagles jumped out to a 14-2 lead after one and expanded in the second with an 11-3 margin.

Rylee Boshell led all scorers with 9 points, Grace Davis added 5.  Hannah Boshell and Laney Shy each had 4, while Hope Woodfin chipped in 3.

Oran was 3-8 from the line for 38%.

In the eighth grade game,  The Eagles led at the half by a point, 11-10 but were outscored 12-6 in the final twelve minutes for the 5 point defeat.

Mallory Lowes was the top point producer with 7,  Hannah Boshell had 6 and Rylee Boshell and Alyssa Spane both added 2.

Oran was only 1 for 7 at the charity stripe for 14%.

Coach Evans said, "We struggled all night to make shots. I thought our defensive effort was there for the most part but we just had too many turnovers."

The seventh grade is 3-0 and 3-0, the eighth is 2-2 and 1-2.

The teams travel to East Prairie for conference games on Thursday at 6 pm.
