The Oran High School volleyball team dropped its match last night at home in straight sets last night against Risco on senior night. The scores were 25-15 and 25-18.
Oran led early, but the Tigers roared back to take a 10-5 lead before an Eagle time out in game 1 and after breaking the momentum Oran rallied to cut the deficit 13-12. Risco took control after that, leading 20-15 before Coach Larry Boshell took his final time out, but this time the home team had no answer as the Tigers scored the final 5 points.
Service errors were a key factor as several rallies were killed by missed serves.
Game 2 was simalar to the first.
The Eagles called a time out down 11-6 and rallied to make the score 12-11 before Risco used a time out. After that the score was tied at 13, 14, 15 and 16. The Tigers then out scored Oran 9-2 the rest of the way to claim the match.
Afterwards Boshell said, "We have to get our serves over the net and in bounds. We cannot give points away like that. We let some balls drop and I feel we are standing up and relaxing instead of staying down and ready the whole time. Having said that, we once again had some spurts early that shows how good we can be, but it doesn't do any good if we cannot learn to sustain that mental approach for a whole set."
Seniors Brianna Stause and Megan Tenkhoff were honored before the game.
Jessie Long had 3 kills and 3 aces, Kaylee Payne had a kill and 2 aces. Stause had 2 kills and an ace, while Tehkhoff added an ace. Kenzie Graviett chipped in a kill. Olivia Schlosser dished out 7 assists.
The Eagles are now 4-9-1 and will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Bloomfield. The junior varsity tips at 6 pm. There was no junior varsity last night even though it had been confirmed earlier this week.
