The Oran High School baseball team picked up a 10-0 five inning victory yesterday over the visiting Advance Hornets. The Eagles improved to 6-1 on the season.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the first. Layne Johnson was hit by a pitch, stole second and then scored on an RBI single by Clay Sauceda.
Oran put the game away in the second, when they sent 11 to the plate and seven crossed. Drew Mitchem reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Jacob Shoemaker's triple to right. Shoemaker would slide safely home when the relay throw was bobbled. Drew Rieschman followed with another triple to right. He scored when Johnson's infield pop fly was dropped. He would score on the third triple of the inning, this one by Cole Priggel. Priggel scored on an RBI ground out by Sauceda. Denver Elfrink was hit by a pitch and scored on Todd Priggel's run scoring double. Austin Eftink drove in a run with a single to make the score 8-0 after 2.
Two more runs would score in the fourth inning.
Sauceda doubled to lead off the frame and scored on Elfrink's single. With one out, Eftink singled Elfrink over to second. Then with two outs, Shoemaker had his second extra-base hit of the day, this time a double that drove in Elfrink to give the Eagles the 10-0 lead.
Reischman picked up the win, going the first three innings. He gave up 1 hit, walked 3 and struck out 2. He improved to 1-0. Todd Priggel worked the final 2 innings. He allowed no hits, walked 1 and struck out 5.
Shoemaker was 2-3 with a double and a triple and 2 RBI. Sauceda was also 2-3 with 2 runs driven in. Eftink was 2-2 and he drove in 1.
Oran swept the home and home series. They won 12-0 on September 1 in the game played at Advance.
Oran will be back in action this afternoon when they travel to Puxico for a 4:30 first pitch.
