The Oran Junior High girls basketball teams picked up a pair of wins last night at home against conference foe Chaffee to open their seasons.
The 7th grade took a 10-4 first quarter lead and held the visiting Red Devils scoreless in the second, winning 18-4 in the abbreviated game.
Hannah Boshell led the way with eight points, Rylee Boshell had four. Hope Woodfin, Grace Davis and Laney Shy each chipped in 2 apiece.
Head coach Ethan Evans told the blog, "I was pleased with the start the 7th grade got off to. We were doing a good job of working the ball around and knocking down open shots."
In the nightcap, the Eagles overcame a slow start to claim an exciting 29-26 victory.
Oran was down 9-2 after the first quarter but stormed back to take a 13-11 halftime lead. The Eagles expanded that lead to 3 after three frames. The teams played even in the final 6 minutes.
Mallory Lowes topped Oran with 15 points, seventh grader Rylee Boshell added 7 points. Alyssa Spane had 4 points an seventh grader Hannah Boshell chipped in 2 points.
Coach Evans said, "We got off to a slow start but really started to get after it defensively after the 1st quarter. We showed determination in holding on to the lead at the end."
The teams will be back in action on Wednesday when they hit the road to take on league rival Scott City at 6 pm.
