Volleyball picks road conference win

The Oran High School volleyball teams split their matches last night in Scott City.  The varsity picked up a three set victory while the junior varsity dropped straight sets to the Rams.

The younger squad lost 25-18 and 25-7 to fall to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the SEMO Conference.

Asst Coach Erika Hutchcraft was in charge during the first game said, "This game was a complete disappointment to me.  The girls went out there with negative attitudes and it definitely showed.  We have a lot to work on to improve on this team and the girls have to want it every single time.  I am hoping that we have attitude changes before our next game Monday night."

Cami Cruz had 2 aces and Ali Hornback had 2 kills.  Katelyn Streeter and Savannah Elfrink each had an ace and a kill apiece.

During the night cap, the older squad won 25-14, 7-25 and 25-21.

On the evening, Brianna Stause had 6 kills and 2 blocks. Jessie Long had 4 kills, while Kaylee Payne added 3 aces and 2 kills.  Olivia Schlosser set 9 assists.

Head coach Larry Boshell was back on the bench.  After the game he told the blog, "We showed some really good things this past weekend and it carried over to tonight's game.  The first set we made very few errors and we pulled away and got the win.  The second set started out with them on a 16-0 run.  We made some mistakes but they also got some breaks that kept their rally going.  We couldn't turn that game around but it didn't get the girls down and we came out in the third set and played a good game and won 25-21.  We will get back in the gym tomorrow and work towards our next game."

The varsity is now 4-6-1 and 3-0.

The teams will be back on the court next Monday when they travel to Zalma.
