The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams won one and lost one last night in their final regular season games at conference foe Delta.
The eight grade game was played first. The host Bobcats picked up a 55-39 victory. The 7th grade played 2 quarters and Oran won 24-16.
Head Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "The 8th grade played well for two quarters (1st & 4th) but didn't play consistent enough for all four quarters to get the win."
The older boys were tied at 16 after the first 6 minutes, but Delta, the number one seed in the upcoming conference tournament, controlled the middle two quarters as they outscored the Eagles 31-9. Oran cut the margin by 6 (14-8) in the final period, but it was way too little, way too late.
Ty Johnson led the Eagles in scoring with 13. He hit a trey and was 2-3 from the line. Kaleb Gosche also reached double-digits with 10. Drew Smith hit 2 from beyond the arc and finished with 8 points. Dane Shands totaled 6, while Samuel Shoemaker added a bucket.
They were 2 of 5 on free throws for 40%.
The 7th grade Eagles trailed 6 to 5 after one but came back in the second quarter by outscoring the hosts 19-10 to pick up the 8 point win.
Kolton Payne scored 8 for Oran, all in the 2nd quarter, including two three-pointers. Seth Cauble had 7, 5 in the 1st period as he was the only Eagle to score in the first 6 minutes. He was 3 of 4 at the charity stripe. Shoemaker added 6 points, while Nick Romas added a field goal and was 1-1 from the free throw line for his 3 points.
Oran was 4 of 5 from the line for 80%.
Coach Shoemaker said, "The 7th grade started slow in the first quarter but were able to pick it up in the second quarter and get the win."
The teams both finished the regular season 9-3. The 8th was 5-1 in conference, the 7th, 3-3.
The Scott-Mississippi Conference tournament will start on Saturday at Scott County Central. The 8th grade, the 2 seed, will face the #7 hosts at 1:45. The third-seeded 7th grade will follow at 3 pm facing SCC's 6th seeded team. Click HERE to see the brackets.
