The Oran High School varsity boys basketball picked up a non-conference road victory at Leopold last night, 64-28. There was no junior varsity contest.
It was a stingy defense-28 is the least number of points allowed thus far this season and a balanced scoring attack-10 Eagles scored and all 13 played, that keyed the victory.
Oran jumped out 7-0 when the Wildcats called their first timeout with 5:26 left in the opening period. They would score their first bucket with 3:52 remaining to make the score 10-2. It was 18-2 with 2:22 on the clock when the hosts would use their second timeout. The Eagles led after one, 22-2.
It was 37-14 at the break.
Oran continued to expand the lead and played the final 8 minutes with a running clock.
Head Coach Joe Shoemaker commented, "We were able to get off to a fast start which was nice. We were able to play some different lineups together and work on executing some sets. We will take Saturday off and get back in the gym Sunday as we prepare for three games next week."
Max Priggel led all scorers with 17. He hit 3 treys and was 2-2 from the line. Layne Johnson and Jacob Shoemaker finished with 9 each. Shoemaker hit a three-pointer and made both free throw attempts. Luke Barnes finished with 7. He hit one from beyond the arc.
Drew Reischman had 6, Cole Priggel 5, Peyton McVay and Joey Phillips 4 apiece. Wyatt Kinney had a field goal and William Kluesner hit a free throw.
Bradley Brooks, Denver Elfrink and Todd Priggel played but did not score.
Oran hit 7 of 11 from the stripe for 64% and improved to 11-7 for the season.
The Eagles will be back in action for a rare Monday game at home against Woodland. It will be senior night and JV tipoff is 6 pm.
