The junior high girls volleyball picked up its first win of the year last night as the eighth grade defeated Charleston in three sets (21-25,25-10, and 15-1). The seventh grade fell in three (25-23,18-25, and 9-15).
Coach Wibbenmeyer said of the opening match, "We overall played our best tonight. We were communicating better and trying to move our feet more. Hallie (Nichols)had one ace and Lily (Knotts) had three."
About the eighth grade, she said, "The first game we came out like our first few games of the season not like how we played at Sikeston. We were scared and hoping someone else would get the ball. After many timeouts and pumping the girls up we came out excited in the second set. We limited our errors and got more of our serves in. Our hardest thing right now is serving. We have at least 8 (missed) a night and that is just too many free points for the other team. We started to bump set and spike last night also! Hope (Woodfin) did an awesome job at the net protecting our side and going up for blocks and tips! It was awesome to see this in the game because we just practiced blocking and tipping during Monday’s practice. Rylee (Boshell) had 5 aces, Liza (Dannenmueller) and Hope (Woodfin) added three, and Hannah (Boshell) had two. Overall, we are becoming a better team we just have to put it all together still and stay consistent.
The seventh grade is now 0-4, the eighth grade is 1-4.
Both squads will be back in action this evening at Jackson starting at 5:30.
