The Oran Lady Eagles rode the arm and the bat of sophomore Kaylee Payne in their 15-0 win over the visiting Bloomfield Wildcats this afternoon.
Oran scored four in the first to take the lead. A one-out walk was followed by a single then back-to-back triples and a sacrifice fly and the Eagles would never be threatened.
In the second an error, a walk and a Payne triple made the score 6-0.
Five runs crossed the plate in the third as the Eagles sent 10 to the plate that included four singles, two walks and a Payne double.
Oran enacted the mercy rule with four more runs in the fourth as they used a pair of doubles by Katelyn Streeter and pinch-hitter Savannah Elfrink, two walks and an rbi single by Payne.
In the circle, Payne struck out six and walked two. The only ball hit to the outfield was a fly ball to right in the first inning and that was turned into a double play when the base runner, who had picked up a one-out walk strayed too far off base and was doubled off.
Payne was three for three at the plate, with a double and a triple, she drove in six runs and stole a base. Jesse Long went two for three, with a triple and two driven in. Elfrink also drove in two with her pinch double.
Leah Cauble had two hits as did Streeter. Claire Ramsey added a triple.
The Lady Eagles through two games now have yet to strike out. in an at bat.
Coach Jim Eftink said It was "another day of solid hitting up and down the lineup. Kaylee was tough on the mound and at the plate. She didn’t give up a hit while pitching, and she drove in six runs."
Oran is now 2-0. They will be back in action on Monday at 4 pm in Ste. Genevieve.
