The Oran High School baseball team moved its record above .500 on Wednesday with a 16-1 three-inning blowout of the visiting Oak Ridge Blue Jays
The Eagles sent 17 to the plate in the first. 11 crossed, on eight hits, three errors, two walks and two hit batters. Of the 11 runs, only four were earned.
Oran scored their final five in the third, the big blow was Dane Shands' three-run homer. The first Eagle homer of the season.
Ty Johnson (2-0) went 2 and one-third to pick up the win for the Eagles (3-2). He allowed one run, it was earned on one hit. He walked one and struck out six. Conner Kern went the final two-thirds and struck out one.
Jacob Shoemaker and Kaden Hargrove each had three hits and three RBIs. Shands also drove in three.
Coach Joe Bickings said, "We came out swinging the bats early and often. We are really trying to work on being aggressive at the plate and want to hit the baseball. Even in the second inning, we didn’t score we hit the ball hard. It was nice to see us hit the ball like we did after coming off a disappointing loss to Leopold. After the game, I gave the kids credit for excepting a challenge of coming out ready to play and to have fun. We need to clean up our defensive and pitching miscues. We can’t have two errors and a walk and a hit batter in 3 innings. Give Ty a lot of credit as he got out of those jams, only giving up one run. I thought it was huge with him getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning by striking out two batters in a row. That right there should get you pumped up and he was able to swing momentum back on our side. Connor Kern came in again and threw strikes and did very well."
A change in the schedule has the Eagles traveling to Jackson today, weather permitting, at 4:30 today.
