Eighth-grade boys beat Braves

The Oran junior high school boys basketball season opened last night.  The eighth-grade traveled to Scott County Central.  There was no seventh-grade game.  The Eagles led 21-10 at the half and held on to win 43-33.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "I thought [the] win was a good team win for us.  I told them before the game that we had to limit turnovers and keep them off the offensive glass to help give ourselves a chance to win.  We were able to limit the turnovers for the most part.  The rebounding part we didn't do a very good job of the 1st half.  We got a little lucky that SCC couldn't hit any free throws (8-24).  I thought our ball movement on offense looked pretty good at times and that helped us get some easy open baskets."

Nate Pobst led all scorers with 18 points.

Elijah Shoemaker scored seven, Brenden Campbell hit two treys for his six points,  Cody Albritton and Jon Tucker had five each and Jase Fuemmeler added a field goal.

The boys were 7 of 13 from the line for 54 percent.

Bickings added, "It's nice to see the hard work these kids put in over the summer to get better paid off for the first game.  We just have to keep improving every day to improve our basketball skills and knowledge."

The younger team will make their debut next Tuesday when both squads travel to Woodland to take on the Cardinals at 6 pm.
